There are scouts and then there are straight up antitank Choppers and then there are Makeshift up gunned choppers
Scouts Tend to be lighter helicopters with a crew of maybe 2 they can be either converted form light utility choppers like the Jet Ranger or purpose built strongly resembling full attack helicopters. Examples The Little bird, OH58D Kiowa Warrior, S97 Raider, Z9/ AS365 Dauphin and tandem seaters like the Kawasaki OH-1 Ninja, Z19 and RAH66.

Then you have the Anti tank Choppers These are as the name implies meant to eat tanks for breakfast. AH64E,Tiger helicopter, Mi 28 Havok ( or as I affectionately call it the Rat Faced Chopper), KA50/KA52.
with the Addition of sensors like the millimeter Wave Radar on the AH64D/E Some of these have absorbed the scout role. The Critical for this model vs a tandem seat Scout is that the true antitank chopper carries normally double the missiles and rockets of a scout and normally has a medium caliber (20MM-50MM) Cannon. One of my Scifi Favs of this class is the GITS Jigabachi.

In Vietnam and among armies who do not need to fear tanks Upgunned transport choppers are a popular system. Normally packing Rockets and missiles as well as Machine guns and even light cannons these are regular choppers turned flying rambo. the downside is though it adds drag and the more weapons the less personal.
Compensating for this the Russians Created the Unique Mi24 Hind basically BMP crossed with a Mi8 Hip. A chopper Often Improved on but never really competed with. No other Chopper in production is like it . It has all the features of a Antitank chopper, And a Transport but still it makes sacrifices it only packs 8 armed troops and the tail stabilizer is paper thin.

LCONhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04841691624835390231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726484495782035142.post-79445711991308639322015-11-20T01:19:58.577-06:002015-11-20T01:19:58.577-06:00Here's one that I'm a little surprised did...Here's one that I'm a little surprised didn't get mentioned.

Phalanx MP-18 Dragon

http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/flitters.php

You'll have to scroll down a bit to get to it.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15463753036970838320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726484495782035142.post-87972953926715911062015-11-17T23:03:48.535-06:002015-11-17T23:03:48.535-06:00Glad to see "The War in 2020" getting a ...Glad to see "The War in 2020" getting a mention. It was his face you'd see during the often-used shot of looking into the helicopter from the front. So some fun background stuff. The aircraft was a Bell helicopter with numerous panels and hydraulic systems to make the guns and missiles pop out. These would constantly break and/or fall off. During filming over a lake, the operator in the back hit the switch to lower the missile launcher. The pilot felt a thunk and the operator started cussing. "What happened?" "The missile thingy fell off. It's at the bottom of the lake."

This was one reason for the repeated use of the same flight shots during the show. We didn’t had Airwolf TV show in the Israeli station so we tuned the TV set to the Jordanian station's frequency. Didn't understood English or the Arabic subtitles but who care? The Soviet's used the IL-2M3 with 82mm unguided rockets and 23mm cannon to make top attacks on German tanks. The first time a ground attack was stopped by air power alone was on 8 July 1943 at Kursk.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726484495782035142.post-46246247021906428692015-11-15T06:15:15.942-06:002015-11-15T06:15:15.942-06:00I have found this blog two weeks ago and fell in l...I have found this blog two weeks ago and fell in love with it.
