FWS News Flash: My Book is Submitted!

Well, after two years of work, and more editing than I care to admit, I submitted by hard MSF novel, Endangered Species to Harper-Collins. At the moment, Harper-Collins' science fiction arm, Voyager, is accepting material from unpublished authors without an agent. This is huge news. Harper-Collins is one of the hardest publishers to get your novel to, and with the gates down, people like me have a shot. Most of what Harper-Collins accepts will be turned out has an e-book, but there is the possibility of a hard-copy. Who knows? Maybe you can met me on a book tour! And yes, the book was professional edited, which reminded me of a colonoscopy.
Here is hoping!

  1. Hi, William- I thought the saucer men might have snatched you. I guess having your book professionally edited is pretty close. :-) Just out of curiosity, where did you find the editor?

Here's hoping your book is accepted!! Pretty exciting stuff. A hard copy of "Endangered Species" would be awesome. If you are sent on a book tour, be sure to drop by near my home town (Sedona, AZ)!! Have you thought about cover art for your book yet? I've seen some really great artists on DeviantART who do SF book covers with spaceships, powered armor, and giant aliens, so it may not be a bad idea to take a look there...

On the side note, as of this day I am now 19 years old. It's amazing, how the time flies- only two years left before I can purchase a handgun in AZ. Maybe, by that time, I'll be close to achieving my dream of becoming a SF artist and drawing a spaceship worthy of appearing on the "Concept Ships" blog. Right now, I'm stuck doing all the boring foundational studies, which are a bit like going to the Karate master only to have him hand you a brush and telling you to paint the fence. Twice.

  2. Many happy birthdays, Mr. Phoenix! 19 is a great age, enjoy it and that handgun better be a SIG or H&K!My editor is a university student working on his master's in English. He was much cheaper than a professional editor by a few thousand dollars!
Concept Ships blog is an amazing site, wish I could steal some of it for FWS! On my wish list for cover artists from Deviantart is ukitaumuki and Shimmering Sword...check'em out!

  3. Thanks, William!! I was eying the FNX 45. Tactical in flat dark earth, but I've heard some pretty good things about SIG and H&K- gotta check them out. Sounds like you got pretty lucky on finding an editor!

I love the Concept Ships blog- lots of really awesome artists post there. Shimmering Sword is a really good SF artist. I've discussed lasers and space war tactics a few times with him in the comments sections of his art- he really put thought into his designs. I thought of him when wondering who you would like to do the cover art for your book. I'll have to check out ukitaumuki's gallery- I haven't seen it yet. Mike Doscher has some really great SF art in his gallery, if you haven't seen it yet- kind of a steam-punkish, but realistic, vision of humanity exploring and settling the outer solar system.

  4. That FNX .45 is pimp. Total pimp. The SIG 1911 .45 is badass. I had a SIG P229 .40, and loved it. I've fired the FN Five Seven, and it a very good weapon.
Just checked out Mike Doscher...pretty damn good! Shimming Sword's armor design and his females are amazing...class A work.
