FWS News Flash: All You Need is Kill...First Image

Wow...can you 1980's action shot? This is from the upcoming MSF film, All You Need Is Kill starring Tom Cruise as Bill Cage and based on the award-winning Japanese light-novel of the same name. All I can say is that is looks like shit. Where the hell are the Jackets, the armored power-suits, mentioned in the novel? Are we MSF fans going to get fucking robbed of our APS again (Starship Troopers 1997 movie)?! On a good note, some of the weapon systems mention in the novel are there...sort of...but this outfit some sort of placeholder for CGI SFX....or is this it? Really? That is the best they could come up with? This design is similar to some current prototypes of military powered exoskeletons, but they are more about enhancing a soldier's strength to carry heavy equip without the need of bulk vehicles, not for frontline combat duty. I mean, come on! There is little to none in the way of armor! And besides, how the hell are suppose to swap out the magazines in the assault rifle pinned to your forearm? I was excited about this film, but now I'm unsure. I just hope the SFX is better for the aliens, the mimics than this thing. Damn, I thought this would be good...

  1. Are you SURE that isn't a deleted scene from "Starship Troopers"?? That exoskeleton looks like I made it from cardboard, sytrofoam, and bits of plastic!! You need freaking armor, not a cardboard toy version of modern experimental exoskeletons. Guess we're gonna be robbed of our APS. If the suits are this bad, I dread to see what the aliens look like...

  2. Yep, you called it, Mr. Phoenix, we are getting robbed. The really shitty part about this that really pisses me off, the book is very good, and Tom Cruise normally makes good movies, especially sci-fi. Just look at the amazing Minority Report, My guess on the aliens is that the book's aquatic mimics will not make into this film. Shame.

  3. The design of that "armor" is so stupid, I can't help but wonder if the concept design was directed by a cat stepping on a keyboard. Yep, we're being robbed, and Tom Cruise can't really fix that. Minority Report was a good film, but it was an interesting story+good concept design and FX+Tom Cruise that made it good, and shitty design and FX+Tom Cruise equals Tom Cruise running in shitty looking exoskeleton in a bad B movie.

Have you seen the latest Concept Ships update? They have some really pretty Star Wars Episode III concept art- it is better than the movie!! It is a shame when great concept and design and a big budget are hampered by underwhelming filmmaking...

I was really hoping that All You Need is Kill would be good, but I think you are right, bad B movie.
